Answering Opposition

Are you living in such a way that you are answering a call God has placed on your life? If so, bottom line, you can expect opposition at some point along the way. Opposition is the enemies way of distracting you, slowing you, causing you to doubt, discourage you, or flat out defeat you.

Satan’s first effort at this was in the garden when he brought opposition to Adam and Eve simply by questioning what God had told them about eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He caused them to doubt by simply shifting the truth just a bit. Because they did not stand on truth and fulfil God’s will, they were sent out of the Garden of Eden and to this day we live in a fallen world facing the consequences of their actions.

So, the question is, when you are living out God’s call on your life and come up against opposition, how will you respond? Will you fold, and give into the doubt, fear, or defeat? Or will you follow the many examples from scripture of saints who pressed on in the face of opposition?

Nehemiah was ridiculed, mocked, and threatened for answering God’s call to finish rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem.

Noah was ignored and likely ridiculed when answering God’s call to build the ark while skies were perfectly blue.

Job was chastised for not turning his back on God, when he continued to lose everything dear to him.

Mary surely faced scorn for her pregnancy before marriage, yet she carried the Christ child and welcomed him into the world.

Paul was threatened with his life on many occasions as he continued to travel and share the message of the gospel, as God called him to do.

Jesus was mocked, beaten, and scorned for answering God’s call on His life to lay himself down for us.

Each of these were fulfilling God’s will and calling on their lives, and in that way, allowed others to see the power of God displayed.

We are called to nothing less. Like each of these, we should be living a life marked by prayer and time in scripture, to correctly discern the will and direction the God of the universe has placed on our lives. Don’t let a little, or even a lot, of opposition cause you to turn away from what God has for you.
