Hi, I'm Julia!
Or Jules, or Julie, or Mom, depending on who you ask. I'm so happy you are here! Just a tid-bit about me, other than the obvious mom stuff you can read about elsewhere on the site...including, our infertility struggle, time as foster parents and adoptions of four of our five kids. I always wanted to be a writer, children's books mostly. So happy to say, a year after I published, Making Me Mommy, the story of our adoption journey, I’ve published my first children’s book, Wide Awake, why can’t I sleep? available on Amazon. I'm a special education teacher by trade which took me until my 30's to finally decide on, after graduating college in my twenties with a Health and Human Performance degree. I'm an athlete for life, I love to run and will keep at any sport I can, so long as my body allows it. I have a pacemaker going on 15 years now and am literally alive by the grace of God. I have sinned, struggled, succeeded and failed, and have survived to tell this story God has given us.
I'm married to my best friend, Scott, who balances me out in a way no one else can. He is a retired Army Apache Helicopter pilot, with 25 years of service, a retired High School History teacher, Pastor at Round Top Baptist Church, 'gentleman' farmer, avid reader, and an amazing father to our squad. I love this guy with all that I am, and am daily thankful for this life we lead together.
These are our kids. The oldest, Timothy, is a great big brother. He is a hard worker and would rather be out on the farm working than just about anything else. He has an amazingly creative mind and will do amazing things someday. Next is Mason, who is the quintessential middle child. He is the calm to most all the storms that erupt in our house! (We love each other big, but let’s be honest….five kids living, schooling, playing and working together lends itself to plenty of disagreements!) He is a gentle spirit with an amazing gift for writing, which makes this writers heart so happy. Eli is the youngest of the three boys and embodies traits from both of his older brothers. He has the biggest emotions and a truly compassionate heart. We are so proud of our sons and love watching them learn their place in the world around them.
Our girl, Sophia is small in stature but can hold her own in most any situation. She won’t be left out of the farm work, but would gladly wear a sparkly dress (if I let her) to work in the cow field! She is the perfect mix of tom-boy and princess….I hope she always stays comfortable in the dirt and in a dress. And then there’s the baby, Logan. He is the perfect gift we had no idea we were waiting on! Life with five....where to even begin. It's not quite enough to say we love them with all that we are, because it's somehow more. Four of our five are adopted, yet they all look alike, the oldest four are all almost exactly 17.5 months apart, and could every one be ours biologically. There is not a thread of our journey we can claim as our own...God had His hand in every single piece of it and I will seek to give Him the glory so long as He gives me the words.
